Case Study

Hemisphere
The developer of this two-phase rental complex, Kodem, was looking for a charging solution for future tenants that would eliminate the need for billing management while avoiding the need to oversize the electrical infrastructure. The project benefited from the expertise of Desjardins Experts Conseils and F. Coutu Électrique for the installation of the SMP+ units.
Challenge
Provide a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in a multi-unit residential building where residents’ individual electricity meters are inaccessible from the parking spaces; allow for flexibility in assigning parking spaces to tenants based on their need for access to a charging station.
Solution
To power the charging infrastructure for the 167 units in each of the two phases, the SMP+ was selected:
- 2 x SMP-21 (one per phase)
Conduits to prepare for the future installation of a second SMP in each phase - Preliminary conduits (in the concrete slab) for the installation of a third SMP per phase
- 21 charging stations were also installed in each phase.
Benefits of the SMP+ solution:
- Allows up to 21 charging stations to be connected from the same power source, maximizing every available kilowatt-hour thanks to its automatic load shedding algorithm.
- Compatible with all brands of electrical panels and charging stations.
- No recurring fees or management fees.
- Limits power demand to reduce electricity costs and avoid the penalties associated with high power demand.
- Wired Internet connection: cheaper and more reliable than wireless systems.
- No billing management of user consumption is required.
- Ideal for rental properties: the charging station is linked to the parking space, not to the unit.
- Access to the Connect Portal, which allows for billing by kWh of each user’s electricity consumption
